The chart of accounts
What the accounts are, and why you probably should not invent your own.
Villagely seeds a chart of accounts covering what property operations actually produce — rent income, dues income, late fees, maintenance expense, management fees, deposits held, and so on. Journal entries post into these automatically.
You can add your own accounts, and there are good reasons to. There are also bad ones: an account per property is almost always wrong, because Villagely already reports by property from the entries themselves.
System accounts
Some accounts are marked as system accounts because automatic posting depends on them. They can be renamed but not removed — deleting the account rent posts into would break posting rather than tidy anything.
