Income statement, balance sheet and by-property
The three reports, what each answers, and where the numbers come from.
Income statement
What you earned and spent over a period. The question it answers is whether the operation made money.
Balance sheet
What you hold and what you owe at a point in time. Retained earnings is derived from the entries rather than stored, so it cannot drift away from them.
Profit and loss by property
The same income and expense, split by the property it belongs to. This is the one that tells you which building is carrying which.
All three come out of the same journal entries the rent ledger posted. There is no separate set of books to reconcile them against, which is why they cannot disagree with the operational record.
