Adding your first property and units

Everything else in Villagely hangs off a unit, so this is the first thing to do.

A property is a building or an address. A unit is a door inside it. Leases, ledgers, work orders, residents and listings all attach to a unit, so nothing else works until at least one exists.

  1. 1
Open Properties and add the building

Name, address, city, state and postcode. The name is what you will see everywhere else, so use the one you actually say out loud.

  2. 2
    Add units to it

A label per door — “1A”, “Unit 2”, “Flat 3”. You can add beds, baths, size and market rent now or later; a listing will ask for them when you advertise.

  3. 3
For a single-family rental, add one unit anyway

It feels redundant and it is not. The lease and the ledger attach to the unit, not the property, so a house needs one unit representing itself.
